Last week, we began 3rd grade music class with a movement game. I play rhythms on the conga drum, and students are required to put my drum beat into their feet. The beat will change from slower beats to faster beats, and they need to match my beat. When the drum stops, students freeze and listen for the number cue. How many times do I play the drum...2, 3, 4, or 5 times. Once they determine the number, they must quietly put themselves into groups of that number. The goal is to create a statue with that group of people. Once students were used to this procedure, I gave them the name of their "Statue" they had to create! Once they were in "freeze mode," I got to walk thru the museum, which was a blast!! Here are a few examples:
