So my 5th graders and I are tracing the music history line that leads us to the development of jazz music of the early 20th century. One of our "stops" this week led us to the discussion of blues music and the 12 bar blues form. This is an ARTS Integration collaboration between music and the 5th grade classroom teachers. Therefore, 5th graders are writing their own blues lyrics. There are some that are HILARIOUS, such as: Title--the Chips Blues Why are there only little bits of chips? Why are there only little bits of chips? Don't have nothin to grab hold of that Dip! Other titles included: "Number Talks Blues" "Lost Chicken Nugget" "I Dropped My Hot Pocket" On a more serious note, I also received this example: Title: We Are Immigrants We are immigrants, trying to make our way. We are immigrants, trying to make our way. Just wish people would notice what we do and what we say.
